Gloria Dei – A cuvée with history and modeled after Terlano's

Today we would like to introduce you to our pride and joy: Gloria Dei , our elegant white wine cuvée. This wine has a fascinating history and deep meaning for us, as it marked the beginning of our journey as a winery.

This year we're celebrating a special anniversary: our winery is turning 20! It fills us with immense pride and gratitude to look back on two decades filled with passion, focused work, and countless wonderful moments. And the Gloria Dei? It was our very first wine, which we launched in 2005 .

It is therefore not just a wine, but a symbol of our beginning and our continuous passion for wine culture.

"Gloria Dei" is a harmonious blend of three classic South Tyrolean white wine varieties: Pinot Blanc (60%) , Sauvignon Blanc (30%) , and Riesling (10%). This combination is not chosen at random, but stems from a deep appreciation for the region's traditional wines and is inspired by the Terlano Cuvée.

Until 2014, our "Gloria Dei" was produced as a field blend . This means that the aforementioned grape varieties were grown together in the vineyard, harvested together, and vinified together – this method allows for wines of exceptional complexity and harmony, as the grape varieties are intertwined from the very beginning.

With the 2015 vintage, we decided to usher in a new era for "Gloria Dei". Since then, the grapes of each variety have been harvested and vinified separately before being blended into this special cuvée. This step allows us to bring out the unique characteristics of each grape variety even more precisely and to fine-tune the final composition even further.

The "Terlaner Cuvée" itself is historically known for its composition of Pinot Blanc (as the main component), supplemented by Sauvignon Blanc and/or Chardonnay, often with smaller proportions of other varieties.
The wines are known for their minerality, structure, and longevity, which they owe to the unique volcanic porphyry soils and the special microclimate of the Terlano growing region. The origin of the designation "Terlaner Cuvée" (also called "Terlaner Classico") is closely linked to the Terlano winery, whose philosophy and identity it has long shaped.

How does the harmony of Gloria Dei manifest itself in the nose and on the palate?

The wine "Gloria Dei" is more than just the sum of its parts. Its harmony is the result of the precise blending of our grape varieties, each making its unique contribution:

It unfolds a fascinating complexity in the nose :

The Pinot Blanc contributes crisp notes of apple, often accompanied by subtle nuances of lime or white pepper. It forms the backbone of the cuvée with its fresh and fruity aromas.

The Sauvignon Blanc enriches the bouquet with its typical, delicate fragrance components of elderflower. This distinctive note is often accompanied by other invigorating aromas such as gooseberry, green apple and a hint of citrus fruits .

The Riesling perfectly complements this composition. Its pronounced acidity lends the wine structure and vibrancy. It contributes with its Crisp freshness contributes significantly to a harmonious and balanced taste experience.

On the palate, our "Gloria Dei" presents itself with an impressive structure and elegance.

The fruitiness of the Pinot Blanc is perfectly balanced by the lively freshness and fine acidity of the Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling.

The wine displays a lovely freshness and a particularly delicate aromatic profile. It is fruity, but never heavy, and impresses with a mineral finish that immediately invites another sip.

Therefore, our "Gloria Dei" is an ideal companion as an aperitif, with fish dishes, light meat or simply as an elegant and fresh wine to enjoy .
